Tony Dodds fully recovered and ready to take on World #8 Frenchman Laurent Vidal
This Friday 18th January Wanaka lad and New Zealand elite triathlete Tony Dodds will once again be the local favourite in the Wanaka Contact Tri Series race.
This will be Dodds’ first race on the international circuit since experiencing a burst appendix whilst training at altitude in France in August last year, and he’s more than ready for his comeback.
“The three months off did me very well, and I am definitely in a good space for competing strong on Friday!”
Nicknamed the ‘Doddsy International’, with the support of sponsors Dodds annually ups the prize pot of the race from $2,000 to $10,000 in order to attract more international elites.
His claim, as always, is; if anyone beats him, they win the $10,000, but if he wins, the entire prize pool will be donated to Cystic Fibrosis. This bet transforms the race into fast, high pressure entertainment for the massive crowds that gather every year.
For the last two years Frenchman Laurent Vidal, currently ranked 8th in the world, has taken out the win, but Dodds is ready to give it his all.
“I am determined to do well in this race, so have been training extra hard and I am feeling in great form.”
A big thank you goes to major sponsor, NZTRI.co.nz, who have come on board for the first time this year, donating a large portion of the $10,000 prize pot and pulling other sponsors on board.
