There is No Place Like Home

After 5months of being away, and especially in countries that don’t speak english, the feeling of being away from your comfort zone starts to kick in. This is one thing that i will be looking to change next year, is being in a place where it feels like home and i enjoy it.

There really is nothing like home, you can go out to see your mates anytime, you know the surroundings, everything is just that little bit easier. And i get that feeling everytime i come home each year after 5months of being away. Coming home on the Air New Zealand plane from Auckland to Queenstown overlooking the snowcapped mountains, i know im home. it’s more a feeling of reassurance. And i dont know why but im always performing at my best when im training back in NZ. That’s why i think that the Europeans are so good when the international season comes in june through to september is because for one they are in the comforts of their home and country, and two because they start their season about may and dont race from september through til may again.

It’s the fresh fruit, the meat off the farm, the foods that I’m always used to that makes it so much easier. But as a professional athlete i need to get use to not always having those comforts when overseas. If only NZ was warm all year long, then i’d be here training then travelling away to races each time!

Next year I think i will spend more time in USA to start off with as it is probably the closest we can get to feeling like at home, plus they love their food AND SO DO I!
